The Pakistan Cricket Board management has inducted a new captain in the shape of Younus Khan after the dismal performance of the national team against Sri Lanka. Younus’s aggressive style of leadership in stark contrast with that of former skipper Shoaib Malik, who was more laid back in his approach. Coach Intikhab Alam, who was previously in favour of Malik, has now voiced support for the new captain.
Will Younus be able to infuse new spirit in the much de-motivated side? And do you think his captaincy will be a long-term appointment or another short-lived stint?

I should really appreciate what the PCB has done. At last a good leader has come to lead Pakistan and I’m sure he’ll take Pakistan to the number one spot. He is an aggressive captain and leads from the front. Second that he is a very experienced cricketer and has played some great knocks in one-day and test cricket. No matter what someone says I’m with Younus and he will succeed.
March 9th, 2009 at 15:09
yes, i believe he will successed,a Player who can lead from the front can lead the team & he has shown this in the recent test Match against Lanka at Karachi.he needs support from the Board and from Senior Players, its hight time that all these should work for the betterment of Pakistan Cricket. Wish him good luck and good luck to Cricket in Pakistan.
March 9th, 2009 at 8:03
It is too early to comment on his captaincy. He need to learn a lot more about the tricks of the trade. I hope he will come up to the expectations if the PCB does not interfear and allow him to continue . They r the ones who spoil the sport in Pakistan.
March 9th, 2009 at 1:38
right now we cant get a better person n player to be a captain of our team
younis is the right choice
i hope he will be a good cap.
he have to be bit careful coz sumtimes he is bit more attacking
so he should c that n keep the field according to the pitch
March 9th, 2009 at 1:35
i think he can be a good leader coz he hv the ability in him to lead. but the thing is that v all should back him. couple of loses should not be the reason to fire him as a captain.
the selector the coach and the manager n the former crickters should back him instead criticizing him. instead of giving there statement to media they should give thea idea to the captain.
I know the day younis thinks that he cannot do the job he will him self resign from the job
March 8th, 2009 at 16:23
Good Luck to Younis Khan. He’s been a prime batsman in recent past. Also, a very good team player and plays the game in right spirit. His temperament has always been the best in the team. I was very surprised when he rejected the leadership twice after Inzi because he was probably the only one who was most deserving for the job. But, unfortunately Shoaib Mallik was given the offer and he promptly accepted it. I think PCB were always influenced by South African cricket. They’ve tried to implement South African stratergies whether it be like bringing Bob Woolmer as a coach, Jonty as fieding advisor, Waqar as first change in ODI’s and now bringing in a new fresh, young captian like Graeme Smith. But, PCB failed to realize that Smith is not only a very talented batsman but also a natural born leader. With initial hiccups, he soon got into the groove and marshalled his resources very well. The job will be very tough for Younis because he is quite a different cricketer in the line-up and also he doesn’t have sufficent resources to get Pakistan going. PCB should now start considering the talented players who are banned for playing in ICL rather than supporting the stupid BCCI who have gone too far to force the other to savk the payers. Simply unacceptable. Just imagine the Pakistani line-up with Abdur Razzaq, Mohd. Yousuf, Imran Nazir, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mohd Sami. These are straight into paying eleven and keys players. Apart from these they also have so many other emerging players. Younis can only hope to get support from his “second-in-command” the very Mr.Dependable Misbah-ul-Haq. But, I still feel that with Shoaib presumably out of cricket, PCB should seriously think of getting the banned cricketers in team rathering than trying to please BCCI. Again, good luck to Younis .. a real tough job ahead.

Sports In Pakistan Is Dead After The Sri Lankan Team Attack
So Why BOTHER ??
March 4th, 2009 at 11:56
yes he can succeed in all likelihood. the body language, temprament and leadership are much better than what we saw during inzimam and malik’s captincy. good luck to the new captain younis khan.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:52
I surely hope so, I mean I hope and pray that Younis as the Captain is going to be a positive change to the Pakistani Cricket team. To be very honest we Pakistani’s are now sick and tired of the performance of our Cricket team so lets hope this makes some sort of a positive change to it. Amen(fingers crossed)
March 3rd, 2009 at 1:21
I think Younus is more aggressive, and this aggression is badly needed. But,he still have to prove himself in the upcoming tours. He should pay special attention on Pakistani pace attack.
And only the time will tell if he succeed or not!
March 2nd, 2009 at 23:56
Can we bring another Imran, waqar, wasim, inzi, miandad, amir shoail, saeed anwar or even a Saleem Malik?
Is it worth commenting on our present cricket team or on this useless new captain?
Not a single current player can touch the class of our legendary cricket teams of 90’s.
What happened to that very talented bowler who failed multiple drug tests? Pathatic!
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:29
He got potential but it’s very early to say that he can run the side..We played already so much of cricket with Asian teamsin recent times..I think the real challenge is how he lead the side against Australia, SA and NZ.
I see that we are trying new fast bowlers, but unfortunately pitches are completely dead…I hope they will stay in the side for future series..
Also why not we are trying new spinners or a keeper?…Kamran Akmal and Danish Kaneria are history now…Also we need to do a lot in the fielding area..we are so behind…
March 2nd, 2009 at 8:46
Younis, seems very unimaginative. He has pre-determined approach to field placement and bowling changes. Not creative at all. He is inspiring and daring though.
March 2nd, 2009 at 7:07
every player in the team needs to play for the country and not for themselves. Its a huge responsibility to represent your country in a sport, but unfortunately our players have always taken it very lightly, just like playing in the street showing lack of responsibility which shows a lack of talent. Politics should be left our sports and sports should be taken as sports. Its very shameful to see the conduct of players like Asif, carrying drugs with them. They dont realise that they carry the reputation of the country with them. Anywways, the team is in a very sorry state and the players are extremely lazy and pleasure oriented, specially Kamran Akmal. I think he should learn from dhoni. They both started together and we can see where dhoni has landed and where Kamran Akmal stands. Younus belongs to the era where we had good players in our team like Wasim, Waqar, Saeed Anwer, Inzi, etc. I think he is one man who still knows how to play proper cricket, and i think he must do an all round job for his country. Otherwise, its just shameful to see how the cricketers we have behave, and what they are doing to name of the country.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:39
the hallmark of pak cricket had always been
thier front foot stnace and fearless approach which after Imran was never found
In Younis we have a chance to see that phase again. however, younis has to understand the patience required to lead the side. InshaAllah we will be back but its oin to take atleast one year

Younis Khan is an experienced and best deserving person to lead Pakistan at this stage when team has many formidable challenges to meet. His style of captaincy can run Pakistan Cricket team in this turmoil situation.we as nation now need some aggressive leaders.
March 1st, 2009 at 22:23
I wonder when Administrators, whether they are of PCB or hold Govt. Office in ISlamabad, will start behaving like grown ups? Shame on PCB that they wasted Talent of Misbah and Yunis Khan in leading Pakistan.Instead ” Sifarshi”like Shoaib Malik who are completely incompetent like their leadership in PCB were allowed to lead Pakistan. Results are before the whole nation. We don’t know what will be the outcome of upcoming matches under Yunis’s leadership but one thing is clear that he has the determination of a captain’s inning(313 runs) when the team is in crisis. Give me just one xample when Shoaib would have done that?
March 1st, 2009 at 17:09
i think he is the best choice. he is very organized and intelligent. above all he is one of those great players who can handle the presure
March 1st, 2009 at 7:24
i never knew he became the new captain where’s malik?
February 28th, 2009 at 12:10
He has capable to lead pakistan cricket team to the right direction. I hope he has a potential to united the players to wining combination. I wish him all the best
February 28th, 2009 at 9:07
Younis was brilliant in the Karachi test, but more time and tests are required to justify the tonnes of praise being heaped on him. He also needs to be coached by the PCB in how to handle media because he gets too animated and speaks before he thinks.
February 28th, 2009 at 5:15
Good choice and right direction our cricket is going. I hope we will get Pakistani Player from ICL as well. I believe we have lot more talent than we have shown so far.
Thanks
February 28th, 2009 at 2:43
I think this was a better decision in such circumstance but PCB shouldn
February 27th, 2009 at 1:12
i think that younis khan will re-join the scattered team of Pakistan very soon… well according to his captaincy he is doing very well as we saw in the first test match against SriLanka… and all the players performed great specially younis himself and kamran akmal
February 26th, 2009 at 17:53
Well I agree this is just a beginning. However there is a dire need to have CONTINUITY in Pakistan’s cricket. We always want win, so do the others. Younis should be made captain for long. He should not be playing with the feeling that it’ll be his last chance as Captain or in the team. We can have the examples of continuity in other cricketing countries like Australia, India etc
Good luck Pakistan Team in Lahore and other cricketing days to come
February 26th, 2009 at 17:49
well done Younis, its the only good news after a long long time.
Your determination make us happy and proud.
You loose or win we love you becuase you always give your 100%.
February 26th, 2009 at 17:09
I always maintained,Younus Khan should be the captain of Pakistan. Now,he should be supported by PCB by getting the better players like Mohd Yousuf,Suhail Tanwir,Mohd Asif and if possible Shoib Akhtar.
The Pakistan attack in the first test was mediocre. The presence of above players in the side would have made good , positive effect for Pakistan side.Field good players, tests will be interesting and attract the crowd.
February 26th, 2009 at 10:50
Best of luck younis khan for future.
I just want to share poetry which i wrote when pakistan team was struggling with proper form.
I hope younis khan can change the things !
Pakistan Cricket Team
by adamkasi
Best Pakistani cricket team
Always ready for wining
Depends upon the players willing
Different player are playing
People are always expecting
Openers just started batting
Imran nazir ready for blasting
Timing is no more part of batting
Two or three shots make him thinking
To hit a good ball for a big one
Misjudge the ball, first wicket fall
Salman butt in the crease yet
Stopping the ball in front foot
Technique which not necessary works
Playing straight ball across the wicket
Ball hit pads and LBW appeal accepted
Younis khan is dancing guy
Play first fifty balls for try
Amazing shots make bowler think
Reverse sweep is best part his batting
Muhammad Yousaf has the best experience
Building a good partnership with a friend
Bowler are disturb with his timing
Only strategy captain can adopt
To make one of them run out
Yousaf bhai did a silly mistake
Taking a run and fully hesitate
One more run out added in a count
Shoaib malik is captain of the team
Come to play at extreme
Started batting with a different theme
Hit a ball like a cream
Ball is out of park and unseen
Bouncy track can make him trap
Handed over an easy catch
Misbah-Ul-Haq is playing in team
Important for survival of team
Habitual of playing in difficult time
Playing shots all over the ground
Team is back in the game
Wickets start falling like a non-stop train
Misbah in middle need support of batsmen
Team is all out while ten over are remain
We lost the match Again and Again
Captain is expecting to win the next game
February 26th, 2009 at 10:10
This is the same musical chair that PCB plays; one captain after another. I agree that certainly he is the best choice to lead but will he be given chances in the future? We need consistency and must play in foreign soil to groom the players, playing against Bangladesh and Srilanka in not enough.
February 26th, 2009 at 9:34
In a situation where you dont find may options available for captaincy, Younus Khan is probably the best choice. Shoaib Malik, however a very decent performer, couldnt prove his mettle in organizing and leading the team.
A good captain is the one who earns respect of his team mates n all the fans through his solid performance and the ability to take on pressure and take difficult decisions in crucial situations.
Younus is surely a good batsman…. but he still has to prove he can fulfil the other requirements as well….
Being a cricket fan I would really love to see Pakistan’s team back in good shape with a high team spirit and better team-performances.
February 26th, 2009 at 3:32
This is just begining. Let’s wait and watch
February 25th, 2009 at 21:24
Congratulations !
Younis has proved again his batsman ship. I hope he shine like a moon when it comes to captaincy. I just want to give a little peice of adivce. When it comes to selecting team for upcoming tournaments. Please Consider some young players compare to Shahid Afridi. I have some serious doubts on the competence of this players. According to me Shahid Afridi has been blocking 1 valuable spot of an all rounder by staying in the team. Rearly he performs when the team needed it the most, if we look his record its going to speak by itself. I have heard so much about his potential and abilities. However, PCB has given him enough chance to prove himself.
I think its time to give chance to players like IMRAN NAZIR or some one new. we need a proper technical batsman in our team who can bat aand bowl not a SLOGGER.
February 25th, 2009 at 21:11
Its too early to comment on such things, on one side, the first 2 days he was being criticized on field placements and bowler selection then he a triple century and everything changed. I believe he can be a good if not a great Captain, but he has to be given time to settle down and mature as a Captain. So, I beg the Pakistani Supporters to please be patient and not expect too much, so that you are not disappointed when he fails to deliver in the next game or series for that matter.
February 25th, 2009 at 17:26
When i’m sending this feedback, he is out after scoring 300+
Amazing show of the right man, whom PAK cricket needs badly as we need right people in govt. Sami/ Yusuf/ Imran Nazir are still out and if back, team will be in top three again in less than 6 months.
All the best and our regards too for the new captain.
One more, readers plzzz stop commenting like pushtons/ pathans are best leaders. Plz remind yourself, its all about being a PAKISTANI and FOR PAKISTAN. I mention must here (saab sae pehle Pakistan). Thanks to all who wil publish (without editing this much) and all who will relaize what i said here. Looking for the best for PAKISTAN
February 25th, 2009 at 17:06
at last something good happening to Pakistan’s cricket. I hope and pray that it will flourish rather than get damaged by people’s vested interests.
February 25th, 2009 at 14:43
Younus Khan could be the first choice to replace Inzamam. BCCI authorities have rejected his demand of authorities to lead national team. My strong opinion is that his demands were genuine. A true leader need these decision making powers and minimum intervention of higher authorities of BCCI. We have the lesson and Younus Khan has proved his talent as player as well as team leader. We, as nation should trust his skills and expertise with our sincere duaas, keeping always the national flag on top of mast.
February 25th, 2009 at 12:26
I always felt that he was the perfect captain after Inzamam retired. Infact I will go on to say that he is a better and much more agressive captain than Inzamam-ul-Haq. Inzamam was very conservative. If I was a selector I would have preferred him over Inzamam just because of his agressive attitude. He is like Imran and Wasim Akram. The Pakistan board in the past did not treat him with respect and that is why he was very reluctant in accepeting the captainship. I do not blame him. when Imran was the captain he was given full power in selection of the team. If Younis Khan has certain views about selecting certain players than I as a PCB chairman or as a selector would very closely work with him and try to satisfy his request and demands. In the recent past PCB had Col’nell and and majors involved in selection committee, what do they know about cricket. They come at the press conference with sharp suits speaking good english and that’s it. PCB was run by incapables in the recent past and that is the reason why Younis Khan was not the captain of Pakistan team 3 years ago.
As far as I am concerned Younis is the abious choice. He has got “Jigar and Himmat” to be a captain. He is not scared and is a complete team man. One example look what they did with their star player Mohammad Yousaf. He is one of the most quiet players and a star player in Pakistan team and hardly involved in any thing negative but yet he was kicked in and out like a foot ball from the team from one days and 20/20 lately. Why would you want to treat a player of his status like this. What kind of impression you will leave for the other players who are playing that this is how you treat your star player. That is why people who were running the PCB were senseless and brain dead individuals who knew nothing about cricket. The new board should immediately bring back Mohd Yousaf and by the way Shoaib Malik does not command a place in the test side. He is a very handy player for one dayers and 20/20. He should be replaced by Afridi who has a good test record at # 7 position and a very handy bowler.
I hope sense prevails in PCB and treat Younis Khan with some respect and bring back Mohd Yousaf back in the terst side.
February 25th, 2009 at 11:17
well….younis is awsum captain..!! i think best after wasim..!! he know what n how to control the team. and best part is that he never take pressure.! i hope he can break lara record..!! com on khan u r ma man
February 25th, 2009 at 10:46
Pak is gonna win!!
February 25th, 2009 at 9:42
I wish Younis Khan the best. I hope and pray that he beats Brian lara record. The game is headed to a draw either way, he might as well create a new record, just to rub it in on indians face…ahahaha
February 25th, 2009 at 8:41
I think Yunus has the potential to lead. His decision to come
Out to bat with just two overs remaining and not sending a
Nightwatchman shows his mental strenght and positive approach
I request all cricket lovers, ex-cricketers and board members
To support Yunus during His tenure as captain and not just wait
Opportunity to criticize (third man was not plugged…)
I was surprised to read that “yunus doesn’t deserve a place in
The team” he is one of the fastest to join 5000runs club 59. Test
Even our run making machine and greatest cricketer Zaheer Abbas
Scored 5000 in 79 matches. Pls think out of the box/province
February 25th, 2009 at 8:34
well done younus we are proud of you, you have done excellent job beyond our imagine, your batting and your captainship has given us some hope, now we are missing yousuf, abdul razzak, and few more from ICL and we will be able to challenge any opponent in the world with confidence. mohammed asif should never be considered again he has let us down in the world he is a disgrace to thr nation/
February 25th, 2009 at 7:33
Younus Khan has the potential to be a successful captain – inspirational leader, if he is allowed to be so by the administrators and politics of Pakistan cricket. Firstly, PCB needs to stop crawling to ICC and BCCI and look after the interest of Pakistan cricket by lifting ban on ICL players and using all possible means to get foreign teams to visit Pakistan. Secondly, it needs to ensure best eleven are always selected. Thirdly, PCB needs to show respect to the players who represent the country and reward them adequately. Once all this happens results will follow automatically as Younus Khan will lead a happy and contented team. Lastly, I want to congratulate Younus Khan for his superb batting in the test match so far and to use Imran Khan’s words he really has fought like a ‘cornered tiger’.If on the final day he succeeds in breaking Brian Lara’s record and all our prayers are with him he will bring unimaginable smile to the many millions of ordinary Pakistanis and rejuvenate the whole nation.
February 25th, 2009 at 6:16
Another pathan on the making after the great Imran Khan. He has played a captains inning, leading from the front and fighting like a tiger against the strong Sri lankan side. His patience and cool temperament throughout his test career of 59 test matches has proved that he has come of age and had deserved a captains role long time back. Carry on Khan. The world needs another 95 runs from your bat. You have to prove that now you are ‘The King Khan’.
February 25th, 2009 at 0:30
I think the decisison of making Younus Khan is perfect. and you can see it that what marvellous inning of 300 runs ha had made and he is nit out.
February 24th, 2009 at 22:24
Congrats to Pakistan for finally some better news from their cricket. I want to ask following:
1) Why he declined to serve his country initially?
2) Why he did not play this well before for any of the other captains?
Reagrds,
SJ- NY, USA
February 24th, 2009 at 21:32
prior the younis khan’;s batting to be started i thought pak gonna to lose this test very badly..but he validate this quote he come, saw and conquered, he plays with a brave heart..the confidence younis khan had is appreciable. morever i would say younis khan rock the floor and smash that brian lara record, i know u got that potential our prayers are with u.. hai jazba junoon toh himmat na haar.
February 24th, 2009 at 20:48
Younis is the best choice to be leading pakistan. He has the temperant and leadership to lead by example and also lift his team up which malik lacked. younis will motivate the team and also will be good at setting fields and making game plans. The team however needs some fixing, bring back yousuf to solidify the batting, bring in another keeper so we can have a keeper that doesn’t drop chances and lastly we need a quality spinner, kaneria is not a match winner he needs to be discarded.
February 24th, 2009 at 20:12
he will be a great captain
February 24th, 2009 at 18:46
Younus Khan is an incredible talent. He should be given enough freedom to lead his side. He is very good in Man management.
The PCB did the right thing by appointing him as captain. Though success cannot be guaranteed overnight definetly he will build a solid competitive Pakistan Cricke Team in the long run. The PCB and the fans should be patient and allow Younus Khan to do the good job.
February 24th, 2009 at 17:45
Will Younus Khan succeed, you ask. Well, he has already shown that he is a successful. What we should be asking is if the team will succeed under his leadership. We should be fair to the catain. It is always the case, when the team is winning we praise the team and if the team is losing, captain is the villain of the peace. I think team will prosper under his leadership.
February 24th, 2009 at 13:08
deserving, wish him all the BEST!
February 24th, 2009 at 9:41
I am really sorry to say that no captain will succeed to lead the present pakistan team.It is younis destiny…
February 24th, 2009 at 4:24
We have the best players in the world. We just need better training and better organization and we’ll start winning. Some stretagy might help.
February 24th, 2009 at 0:05
Unless and until whole team will not play his part in the game he cant do anything, I wish he lead our team to the way of success AAMEEN.
February 23rd, 2009 at 21:02
PCB has decided well to make Captain Younis Khan of Pakistan Team.He is senior one.He has the ability to win match. He already scored above 200 runs in test and floated Pakistan. He should be Captain till World Cup 2011 in Asia.PCB should give power to Younis Khan so they can make team well.
February 23rd, 2009 at 20:45
With all due respect, may Paki friends, I agree Pakistan does not have a management board that can help groom the best players, but as far as Captain, Younis is the only choice. Lets think beyond being Punjabis or Pathans or anyone else, just think Pakistan, you have only one think outside of Pakistan to represent you, a Green passport, which doesnt say what sect or language you speak and stuff. I am a Pakistani American, and support Younis as Captain 100% and I am confident he will groom a winning team like the Great Imran Khan. Pakista is imcomplete witout Khans
I wish Younis and the whole team best of luck and wish pakistan could have boards like India and Australia, who have brains to think with, who is Ijaz Butt? What is his record by the way to lead a cricket board, but maybe he pays a lot of kickbacks to Zardari and company.
February 23rd, 2009 at 20:08
Given some time, I am sure that Yunus Khan will be a good Captain, so long as PCB keeps politics out & ends corruption. For any new leader you need time to settle. I agree with recent comment in your news items regarding the players playing for their own benefit & traveling with family on tours. This should not be allowed so that players can concentrate on game rather shopping with families. I wish him & the team best of luck in the present series that can make or break Cricket in Pakistan.
February 23rd, 2009 at 13:38
Tragedy and tragedy
Younus Khan, the so called key player of our team. But I question all the people that what has this player done for our team? I guess they are the same people who consider our ministers to be chaste.
None of our players play for the team, they just play to fill their pockets, enjoy vacations with their family. They perform well only when they are in the position of being dropped out.
I call Younus Khan “a looser”. He is fit to be the captain of Mardan’s cricket team. He has no temperament to perform. All he can do is crack jokes and chew gum. With such players in the side it seems that there is no talent.
Its just that due to too much corruption, the real talent never gets a chance to perform because unfortunately they have no contacts with the big shots.
I firmly maintain that all the players should be fired and a new team should be selected. Even if the selectors go out and pick out player from slums of Karachi and train them. Of course our authorities in order to make money will call foreign coaches as we have had no great senior cricketers.
Everything ends up at what intentions we have. All I see is a dark future.
February 23rd, 2009 at 10:48
At 32 for 1 and less than two overs to play for the day, Younis walked into bat. Murali bowling with 6 close-in fielders! That to me defines what a Captain should be. He took the bull by the horn. Brilliant!
February 23rd, 2009 at 9:31
Gentlemen – I sincerely feel pakistan fans should give Younus sometime to get the side together and to get it to perform.
Shoaib was the wrong choice to lead a talented side. While it may take years to find a great captain like Imran, Younus is a great batsman and has good temperament.
The PCB should back him for a couple of years atleast. As for this test match, I think SL got lucky with the toss.If Pak had won it, they would have amassed 600+ easily.
February 23rd, 2009 at 9:19
thats what we always do when our team doesnt perform, we critise. and when we win, we take them up on our shoulders. thats how stupid we are, we dont know when to critize and when to back our players up. There is nothing wrong with the team and the captian its all about mind set and rustiness that our team is facing. no one knows what confidence level of our team will be when no country wants to play with us and our players kicked off from leagues. its time to cheer them up and back them up and after few months with having played enough cricket they still dont perform then we should critize.
February 23rd, 2009 at 0:53
I don’t think Younis Khan or for that matter, Imran Khan would succeed. Pakistan just don’t have there act together. You could bring back Imran Khan, Majid Khan, Hanif Mohammed or Wasim Akram. We wil not succeed untill the people incharge know what they are doing and they are extremely fair. People of Pakistan have no idea about running anything, It’s evident with the state of Country and their Cricket team. We need some smart cricket people who have some sort of Strategy.
February 22nd, 2009 at 22:57
According to me Younis Khan is of the greatest, finest ,and most Excellent batsman in pakistan. He played good innings for the team many times. I like his attitude. At this moment there is no much Experienced player in the team as he is, so i think he will a good quality captain for the team.
February 22nd, 2009 at 19:31
Younis is a highly overrated player – please see his records; if I am correct he has no test centuries against Aus or any in SA!
He is not mature enough, as we saw when he declined the captaincy. – only when he was playing under Shoaib did he realize what he had missed.
His fight with Inzy, his press conference where he said he does’nt want to lead part time, all say a lot of his inconsistent thought process.
I watched him play in a couple of games under Shoaib; Younis was least bothered with what was going on in the field – off course, a Shoaib failure was a step towards captaincy.
People say he is agressive and has energy – so does Afridi. And this showed with his field settings when SL scored 400 in a day. Where was third man!!
We need a cool head (Shoaib in two to three years should mature and learn to carry the team and hopefully stages a comeback like Wasim). I still believe Mohammad Yusuf should be asked to lead for 2-3 years.
But let’s bear with Mr selfish till then.

Dear i think this is good but not a last choice he is a very confident man as a captain and no doubt he is very experience and team player success is not a responsibility of captain it is responsibility of all team members and team officials we need that captain make decision independently and take team togather without any labey system and he give respect to senior player .Thanks
February 22nd, 2009 at 12:23
Younus Khan apparently looks suitable alternative for captaincy. Anyhow, he has to lead the same team; same guys will team up with Younus. It means Pakistan Cricket Team will go through a nightmare.
Anyways, he is confident, enthusiastic and competent. He has the acumen to change the fate of Pakistan Team.
My concerns go with rest of team players who are worthless, good for nothing.
Let’s hope for the best and expect a little from our National Team.

To Judge one a good or bed you just need one match not the whole series or tournament.
For me I judged younus when he captained Pakistan at champion’s trophy India and Pakistan lost very poorly under his belt & was out of tournament at a relatively early stage despite the fact they beaten Srilanka in the opening match of tournament. To me he has no cricketing brain such as he is very poor in selecting the final eleven for the match, poor in bowling changes, field placing and not creative in making batting order adjustments during the course of tournament keeping in view of the match needs as it progresses. I am also highlighting his other side as follows:
He is very good in keeping himself in the team and know how the PCB operates and sometime he joins the wagon & sometime leaves the wagon in the middle whether the one is top diplomat like Shaharyar Khan or close friend of ex President Dr. Nasim Ashraf and this time he has taken the responsibility of defaming (already defamed)Aijaz Butt & Co. and take his personal career further at the cost of Pakistan Cricket and young talented cricketers.
To me we should replace him as soon as possible before he himself resigns and took Pakistan Cricket further behind. Because he is not sincere with any one except himself. Rather we should make full use of his batting potential by taking best out of him as batsman where he has elevated himself quite high during this trouble while other simple but talented cricketers lost their careers he built himself as a world class player at the expense of those poor ones. I agree here he is a master mind but not a cricketing brain.
May Allah saves Pakistan Cricket with another Lows.

I hope this works out.
FOr years together pakistan cricket is plagued with politics. May be our ‘officials’ should learn from India. Their performance is improving… its not that we don’t have talent. Need fair selection and infrastructure like domestic cricket.

Younas is good player yesturday he played terrific
February 22nd, 2009 at 3:25
What Pakistan team needs is an educated and experienced person to run PCB as an organization. Great players dont make great leaders. Running the cricket board has nothing to do with how much cricket have you played or how many runs have you scored, because you wont be able to make decisions which are good for the organization…as proven by Ijaz Butt. He has no idea how to broker a deal between other test playing nations or ICC for that matter. Atleast what Nasim Ashraf proved was that instead of moving the tournaments out of Pakistan, there were postponed. Few of Ijaz Butts unprofessional decisions include – removing of Jeff Lawson by saying that he was ‘useless’, hiring of Miandad without a cause, bashing the Senate, Pakistan losing on Champions Trophy well before the tournament starts and offering to move Australian tour to a neutral venue.
As far as its abt Younus Khan, Pakistan Board needs to first decide what their vision is for Pakistan Cricket. Do they want to build a team that will be led by a younger player, or do they want to give seniority a priority? PCB was always in favour of making the senior most person the captain. Once again, you could be a great player but that doesnt make you a great leader. If they want a younger player to lead the team, then they need to give time to him. I blv Pakistan should have given more time to Shoaib Malik. He is young, and would be in the team for a long time. Whereas, Younus, he is almost nearing retiring age, what will happen then? Would you hire Shoaib again?? Secondly, after declining the captaincy twice, I can not put my trust behind Younus Khan. What makes the PCB think that he wouldnt do it again?? I think it was a very hasty decision to remove Malik from captaincy, however, I could only hope that Younus would show more maturity this time and would lead the team in a proper way.
February 22nd, 2009 at 0:31
i think younas khan is a good choice by the pcb. not only will he brings that energy in the field but also strategically he is full of ideas how to cope in different situations, although the first day of the test match was not quite good but you have to be honest that pakistan is playing after 14 monts. but iam sure pakistan will come back strongly and i hope that pakistan win this series before going off to play australia in uae. they also need the players that went to play icl which will boost their team.
February 21st, 2009 at 23:49
a captain is as good as his team and the fate of the team is being decided here by few incompetent useless people… first of all, they shoudl dismiss the PCB board.. any captain can deliver only when he knows that the board has full faith in him and he has the complete support from the board… which is not happening in pakistan… days are not far when we will be discussing the same topic for another captain… thanks to PCB
February 21st, 2009 at 23:13
dear friends.
looking at all the new talent pakistan has i am very much doubtful if they can deliver positive results,
younus khan has the talent but being a pakistani he is careless at the same time, we definately need to bring some old folks back in the team we got to get ICL players back without them we are not going to prove any better result . hope we are not disappointed i wish pakistan good luck but we need changes on the top ( Coach & the PCB officials)
February 21st, 2009 at 20:50
Khan, please talk less and pay more attention on cricket.
February 21st, 2009 at 17:01
The guy has the relevnt potential and tactics. He is aggressive, but in a positive way. The impact that everyone gets after his statements and action in the field seems like a confident man with the spirit of leadership. So, I say the man deserves it and may Allah help him bring up the team again as it was in 1992 world Cup (Ameen).
February 21st, 2009 at 14:07
Younis khan is an excellent choice as pak captain, he has the energy in the field which will matter most and his spirit to play for pakistan is the key he needs support from all corners including media that will give him morale boost, young team is very important because youngsters are the futre for Pak cricket my best wishes are with younis khan the couregous Pathan from Mardan
February 21st, 2009 at 12:15
I personally feel sohail Tanvir’s ommission was a blunder on the part of selection committee, They think only pace can deliver, thats why three strike bowlers will be used including only one experienced. Sohail khan and Talha are the newcomers, we are not sure about their performances, but as compared to them Sohail Tanvir has got the experience, though of one days and 20-20. This is abig question mark? Above all he has a decent experience of playing international cricket. The inclusion of three young bowlers is not understandable. It means Umar Gul will be doing an additional assignment on his shoulder. This may or may not affect his own performance, only time will tell.
February 21st, 2009 at 9:19
Younis Khan I hope you do well as a captain, I hope you bring discipline and continuity to the team. I do have one criticism for you in the selection matter and that is of Kamran Akmal, I do not understand his selection. As a keeper he is atrocious to say the least, he can bat every now and then but does that justify a key position like Wkeeper? Pakistan with talents like Bari, Rashid and Moin in the past can not come up with one solid Wkeeper to replace Kamran is beyond me. So I am more than disappointed with this decision.
February 21st, 2009 at 7:14
I think Khan will prove a good captain. He has matured over the last few years. He needs to show more calm temprament. He has a tendency to get angry easily, that is exactly what he was when he was offered the captaincy in the first place.
The best thing he can do is induct discipline in the team and pick players on merit. If he wants to emulated Imran Khan’s legacy, he needs to do this.
February 21st, 2009 at 5:05
Wish him and his team best of luck.
February 21st, 2009 at 4:00
No doubt Younis is a mastermind. He will be needing full support from Shoaib Malik and Misbah, Kamran Akmal. Kamran’s inclusion is a big question mark. I hope Akmal comes through this time if not Sarfraz will replace him in next but I hope that’s not too late. I am more concerned about our bowling. I hope we have the attack which can dislodge 20 wickets. Danish Kaneria has been regular member of the team for a good while but this time around we all will be eagerly waiting for our leggie to come up with a match winning performance. Everyone talks about Murali and Mendis but not Kaneria….and very rightly so bcz he lacks consistency. He has enough experience now to win match for us. Lets keep our fingers cross and hope that this test, after 14 months, will bring honor to Pakistan.
Go Pakistan!!!!
February 21st, 2009 at 2:56
I dont see him working as captain on long term basis. This is been a trend that whoever Pakistan wants to get rid off, they make him captain….
e.g Saleem Malik, Waqar Younis, Aamir Sohail,Moeen Khan, Rashid Latif, Inzamam….
Only Waseem Akram was the one who hit back hard after he was dismissed from captaincy…..
I still do believe that Younis doesn’t have a place in the team…..he is most inconsistent batsmen (considering number of matches he has played)….but still he was the only available choice…..
finger cross for his future but I wont be surprised if I dont see him in team after 12-18 months…
February 21st, 2009 at 0:37
Leaving Sohail Tanvir out was his first SLIP
February 20th, 2009 at 23:47
what Pakistan cricket needs is education
there is a bunch of ignorant cricjketers led by ignorant and corrupt officials
all this reflects poor planning of a poor country
may god bless you guys
February 20th, 2009 at 22:39
Self destruction continues in Pakistan.
Was Yonus responsible for eliminating Tanvir for Yasir or Sohail? How can Tanvir be compared with Yasir? with his medium pace, he has been tried and failed so many times. Yes, its true that he took five wkts in India but there was nothing to write home about one sided match where India scored over 500 runs.
Amazing that Talent such as Tanvir was ignored after being no 1 and 2 bowler for last 2 years with Pakistan and rajhistan.
February 20th, 2009 at 22:33
Younis is a great player with very professional attitude. He is a fighter. He will lead from the front and will set an inspiring example for others to follow. I think he is a fabulous choice. He will make a great Captiai like Imran Khan.
February 20th, 2009 at 21:59
i think making him the captain of the national team is a wrong decision, in my opinion being aggressive is ok but he declined first, he is the guy who wants powers in his hands even before he has started as captain, the selectors feels the he might do as the great Imran khan did for our cricket, i think they are totally wrong, Misbah would have been a better choice as compared to younus, lets hope for better now, still we are better than BD and ZIMBABWE do our cricket bosses are happy at this position?
February 20th, 2009 at 21:40
Younis is the best hope for Pakistan. He looks a happy relaxed person and should be able to groom a happy team. And acknowledging this, he should be given the kind of control Imran had. It is clear that the various fractious exablishments who control cricket in Pakistan will alwys pull the team one way or another, leading to a broken disunited team. Let Younis lead the team, unfettered and without restrictions. If he fails, at least we can say, it has been tried.
February 20th, 2009 at 21:23
Oh…He is a fighter and knows how to control the match and guys. While in ground I always saw him with a positive approach and thoughtfull for match. He likes to talk with bowler after every delivery. I wish for his success. GOD BLESS PAKISTAN
February 20th, 2009 at 19:55
I do not know what he will do but taking all the powers in his hands is wrong.
February 20th, 2009 at 19:54
This will be one of the biggest tests of Younus Khan’s cricketing traits in general and his captaincy skills in particular.
The current series against Sri Lanka might prove to be a “make or break” episode for Khan and his team since the odds are heavily against them for various obvious reasons as following:
(1) Pakistan has not played a test match since last 14 months.
(2) There are lots of new faces in the team and some of them have little or no experience of playing a five day test match, which is all together a different ball game than ODIs and the newly introduced 20-20 matches.
(3) Sri Lanka team is a bunch of highly professional players, some of whom are real world class cricketers and their recent performances in all types, forms and departments of the game are amongst the best in the world.
(4) Omission from the selection of ICL cricketers in general and Mohammad Yousuf, (by far the best batsman on his current form and performance on the field, in the land of the pure) in particular, has made the Pakistani team a little bit weak especially in the batting department.
(5) The usual ‘Grouping’ in the team will also take its toll on the overall performance of the team.
In conclusion, I must say that Pakistani cricketers have immense talents generally speaking, no matter what form of cricket they play. It might also happen that few of the highly talented cricketers in the current Pakistani team might astonish us by turning the tables on the Sri Lankans. Who knows, the unexpected might happen and we might see a victorious Pakistani team coming out of this crucial test series against Sri Lanka.
Only time will tell.
Anyway, I wish Younus Khan, manager Intikhab Alam as well as chief selector Abdul Qadir and all other members of the team the best of luck. ‘Keep it up and hang on tough’ is my message to all of them at this crucial juncture in time and history.
February 20th, 2009 at 19:05
I’m surprised how kamran akmal always manages to keep his place in the side. We all know he is a good bat but dropping regulation chances and scoring runs are not going to get the Pak team anywhere.
February 20th, 2009 at 18:24
I think we have the best talent in the world but the only drawback is lack of discipline and professionalism.
He got the potential to discipline the players. He will be a good leader, Pashtuns are always good leaders.
February 20th, 2009 at 17:49
He will be badly fail to re-group the scattered Pakistani team. Most of the players lacks unity and discipline.
Since independence our departments have never shown consistency therefore pls never expect any miracle from our cricket board too.
February 20th, 2009 at 17:11
He has a potential,if he act like a mastermind,he will succeed
