Mourning the Sialkot killings

Mourning the Sialkot killings

Let us all mourn for the family of the two brothers who were killed by an angry mob in the presence of police officials in Sialkot last week.

My heart compelled me to write this due to the depression and anxiety that has been looming in my mind after hearing about the brutal killings.

Pakistan has been going through a terrible crisis situation. No one knows where this country is going, but it certainly does not feel like we are heading in the right direction. Is this is the beginning of some terrible end?

Everyone has a heart. I wonder how can someone’s heart and mind go so numb that not even a single person out of the mob came in front to stop the brutal act. Many people were present on the sad site for hours and while making videos, they forgot their moral, social and religious duties. I can’t stop wondering how no one felt pity on the young boys who were even being beaten up after they had lost their lives. This is evidence of sheer inhumanity, rather the height of it.

If the victims had been blamed for murdering any of the culprits’ family members such fury may be just a little bit understandable, that yes, in retaliation a person could become such animal. But what did they do?

This incident has also proved that there seems to exist no rule of law left in this country. Those policemen, who were present at the time of this brutal killing, should be punished in the harshest way possible so that no police official in future can even think of overlooking his duties of trust, faith and security. How convenient it was for the SHO to escape from police custody is just another example of our lack of rule.

Pakistan’s image is already tarnished, and this incident only made it worse. Media has once again acted responsibly and highlighting this incident is perhaps what compelled the chief justice to take sou moto notice. The culprits can easily be recognized by looking at the footage. There is no reason for them not be caught and brought to justice.

I was listening to the interview of the victims’ grandfather. While crying he expressed his anguish by saying that even the butchers do not sacrifice animals in the manner these men had killed his grandsons. The father of the victims said that he came to know about his great loss just before time for Iftar; the beasts had already killed his sons during the day time.

Thinking of the Sialkot sons’ family has made me restless. This is the height of brutality.

Like every Pakistani with a heart and mind, I too wish and pray that the culprits responsible for the deaths of the young boys are caught and punished with no political or social power intervening in their case.

Will the public be informed about the findings of the high powered investigations and commissions?

Asalam-o-Alikum to all Muslim Brothers and Sisters
One month have been passed and still no criminal of this case got punished. I donot know why court is doing REMAND etc of criminals? They just order right away to punish them in the same way as they did with these two innocent brothers. I was unable to watch the whole film on YOUTUBE as i am feeling someone beating me… These criminals have no religion as every religion condemn it. I donot know what is the condition of their family… They must be spending restless sleep in pain and agony. May ALLAH rest their souls in peace and criminals got punished as early as possible. ameen sum ameen.

    • S.T says:

yes i feel the same.. its one month passed… criminals should be lynched soon …. Allah might have mercy on us showing at least a tinge of fair deal

  3. Saud Khan says:

Assalam-o-alaikum, I’m student of 2nd year.I was shocked and crying with the tears of blood when i heard about this brutal act.I think that we should rise for the justice of those innocent brothers, but not only passing comments about this incident we should be brave and come out because those people who were just watching and taking videos at that moment of such a devilish crime are not from us.I personally think that we should tell Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry to immediately take notice of this incident,a serious notice and he should give a justifying decision.

    • SA says:

Saud, CJ has taken a suo motu notice of the incident and its being investigated. Today they’re carrying out second autopsy of the lynched brothers as the first autopsy report was tampered, such is the height of lawlessness!! The next hearing is on September 27, the investigation report will be submitted on September 16, 2010.

  4. Ali says:

I am very depressed due to this violent act. Am still in shock words simply cannot explain how sad I am.

  5. Mr. Gorgeous says:

People of Pakistan we must all “STAND UNITED” And fight for what is happening in our beloved country..

  6. Mr. Gorgeous says:

No one in this world no matter whatever their crime might be Should be entitled to have such a Horrifying Death..

  7. Akbar says:

Can anyone give be reason why they were killed in the first place. Apart from the footage and other what was their crime ?

    • SA says:

They were “wrongly” (as proven by Judicial Commission enquiry by Supreme Court) accused of having robbed one Bilal. Bilal was killed during robbery; the murder has yet to be investigated. Someone from the crowd accused the boys and they were thrashed by the mob…

  8. Anwar says:

SHO Rana Ilyas is again behind bars. Hopefully he will not escape again.

  9. Noor says:

Astaghfirullah! This is so horrible and brutal. The people of this country are going the wrong way. Those people who were watching idly, not doing anything, really deserve a very harsh and cruel punishment. As for the murderers, the only type of punishment they deserve is death in the same way, at the same place with everyone watching and learning a big lesson. They should know what it feels like to be beaten till their bodies break, till their bones crack, till their throats run dry and sore from all the screaming. They should suffer the same pains they dealt onto those innocent boys who never ever deserved this. Let them bleed, let them feel the agony, let them drown in a pool of their own blood. Because of them, all Pakistanis have suffered the greatest of embarrassments: being degraded to the lowest levels of humanity. Pakistan has already gone through so much. And the worst thing about this is that ALL of these calamities have taken place in the holy month of Ramazan, the month in which Allah shows His utmost Mercy. This goes to show how furious Allah (SWT) must be especially in this month. This is the time to repent and seek forgiveness. May Allah forgive us for all the sins we have committed. May He show us His Mercy. Also, may Allah punish those criminals severely and improve the conditions of Pakistan in these dark times. Ameen!

    • O Alquimisto says:

Subhanallah,Noor, you speak from your heart. No other punishment is too low.An eye for an eye or limb for a limb may seem barbaric or medieval, but its the only effective deterrent of such beastly crimes.

      • Nadeem says:

I totally disagree with you Noor. You are talking about treating these people the same way they treat those two boys. Let me remind you, punishing those who are directly involved in this crime is one thing, but saying that this will be the only way these people, who are watching idly this gruesome and brutal public murder, can learn their lesson is not a very constructive and educated way to move forward in a civilized society. These people are part of the crime because of their sheer ignorance and backwardness in education. When groups of people collectively are involved in such heinous crimes or atleast a silent witness to the crime happening on the street, it means something is really wrong with the cultural, behavioural, social and religious norms of the society itself.

        • Mr. Gorgeous says:

I do agree with you nadeem in one way. The lack of education is one of the reasons of such a Horrifying Act of Injustice. But on the other hand noor is also right because even if your illiterate one must have the sense of whats right and whats wrong!!

      • S.T says:

even i would say that the parents should also be given an opportunity to relieve there pent up emotions by slapping on the faces of the criminals before they are hanged up…..it might bring a little catharsis and bring ease to discomfort souls
MAy Allah bless the souls of innocent brothers with jannat ul firdous ..Aameen Aameen sumAameen

since i have seen the horrific clips i am not able to sleep with out thinking and feeling the pain of the family specially the mother of the innocent brothers.i love my country but my country is ruined by selfish and greedy politics .And the mullah (self made holly person) they are playing horrible roll to destroy the country.these mullah are putting the hatered between different sect of Islam. If these mullah had taught the Nation the good morals ,patient love and respect for each others .these incident can be contoll.Insted the mullah put fire on the sittiation.they are just a show piece they make simple people fool by acting very holy may God show the Pakistanis right path, and they get hidayet ameen.I pray for the family may God give them justice.

  11. Shahid says:

My sampathy to family of victims, Pakistanis wakeup and raise your voice (peacefully). Do not go to sleep like alway’s , life is to short soon it will be time to stand in front of creater and answer what did you do to stop evil in this world. religion is not only Salah and other four pillars in islam but first and foremost it is Humanity and fighting against all evil.

  12. manoj says:

That two brothers not died. they are in my heart I hope all of them.i don’t know what to say. but i want to say something…. when i saw that video my heart broke really……that inhuman animal…… are must be punished.and that policeman(who are in the spot) are punished more than that inhuman animals….. “whats the conclusion”.

  13. khurram J says:

My heart goes out for the parents and sister of the brothers, may god give them the patience and courage to deal with this devastating tragedy. May god bless the souls of these two brothers.

Some comments from the Indian blogger do make sense and I think that people of Pakistan shouldn’t take justice into their own hands including the cases involving minorities.
But my fellow Indian blogger should keep in mind that the treatment of minorities in their own country is no different & they should focus on bringing positive changes within India as well…….

I strongly belief that this type of incident reflects our moral character as a nation, two innocent young boys with a long life ahead of them died for no reason no fault of theirs. But what would you expect from people living in a country where any one can get away with any thing (NRO…etc…etc…), respect for law should start at highest levels in a country but unfortunately in our country that is not the case.

  14. Nadeem Ahmed Shah says:

The real tragedy will be if the killers of these brothers are not brought to justice. Each and everyone has been captured clearly on film, the People who beat them with lathis and the cops who stood by idly, all deserve a death sentence or life imprisonment. Death sentence for the ones actually hitting the boys, life sentence for the Cops, and 5 years imprisonment for the watchers except the people who took videos for without whose help this crime would not be exposed.

Now lets see if Shabaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif stand by their words and push this case to an early resolution so the entire nation and the world can see justice and retribution.

I would like to see these criminals beaten and hanged at the same spot, anything less will not be justice.

    • E Mohammed says:

      Hello Nadeem Ahmed Shah,

You say: “I would like to see these criminals beaten and hanged at the same spot, anything less will not be justice.”

Calling for brutal vengeance is not the way forward. It is the way backward. Vengeance and justice are NOT two sides of the same coin.

      Regards

  15. Naveed Khan says:

These culprits should be hanged in front of the general public to exapmlify and ensure that these kind of incidents does not happen again.

  16. Kamran Ali says:

Just for a second; if its my little son instead of Mughis & Munib, then I may have died before the sunset ? For that, tears are flowing like river from my heart and eyes. Sialkot died, Humanity died, we all are dead people, living in a graveyard with a title ‘Islamic Republic of Pakistan’ with a shameless dead democracy.

Just think when Mughis and Munib were expired and when their souls arrived in the court of ALLAH Almighty, the question must be asked: Who are your murderers? They should have replied, all the people who were watching us dying, capturing videos and shouting slogans and never interfered? Then ALLAH Almighty must have filled an F.I.R against all those culprits who were directly or indirectly involved in the incident of Shaheed brothers? The justice of ALLAH Almighty is surely the greatest one.

Oh ALLAH Almighty; we beg for mercy. . .

  17. atiya says:

  18. atiya says:

it’s a gr8 shame that such incident happend in pakistan …and the thing is that there was no one to stop this brutal killing….may their soul reat in peace .may ALLAH ALMIGHT give their family strength to bear this blow….aameen…

  19. shehmina shah says:

i can feel ur diz pain and we all are infact the whole world iz wid muneeb and mughees and their faimily they will get justice !!!!!!!!!!!! bec we all are wid these two innocent boyzz

  20. V says:

May Allah protect all of us.

Have faith … Remember He is Just, Rahman, Raheem, Master of The Day of Judgment, Nothing is hidden from Him, He hears and sees all things, His are the Most Glorious Names (Qualities).

Someone has commented in their anger (see above), “I wish the same incident may happen with the children of these barbarians especially with the children of DPO”. Please, Please, please … be mindful of your anger….. why would you pray for some innocent children to go through that…. Revenge on a third party does not serve any purpose. We have to get rid of this mentality. We have to channel our anger in the right direction …. to bring about a change. This incident is certainly not the first but I am glad that it is getting the publicity it deserves.

The Sialkot incident has brought the cruel state of affairs to the forefront. I hope and pray that people gain some enlightenment from it and come out of it as a better people, nation…

For all those who have been impacted by it, do not despair. Please do something positive, even if it is a small token, in your daily lives, for the betterment of someone else… I cannot but think that if everyone starts to make incremental improvements for the well-being of others in their daily lives that a societal change cannot take place.

Allah has Blessed this nation with tremendous bounties. Let us do our part.

(I was born in Pakistan but have lived outside for most of my life. Our departure was, in part, due to the brutality being committed against our people.)

I was devasted by the clip when i watched it on GEO. The act was brutal and barbaric. To my utter most suprise people watched and made videos and then sold to the News channels. I am speechless to this incident!!!!!

  22. Raza says:

I feel your pain. I haven’t been able to let go of this story since it happened out of my mind and heart. To show that ALL Pakistanis are not like them who killed the 2 innocent boys..let us STAND UP against what happened and raise our voice until those animals are hanged!

  23. Mian Riaz says:

Afetr reading this sad news i could not watch this vedio. Are we a nation of barbarians with no sense of respect, love and tolerance? It is lack of eduction and also lack of parenting. Sooner or later they guys will be caught and CJ should punish them within the law. Look at the crowd and the law enforcement people (police) just watching that shows, perhaps they were part of the crime. I pray for this nation and people of the town and victims parents. Please God give our nation some sense of responsibility so they can see what is right and what is wrong.

  24. I couldn’t sleep last night, because yesterday in a political party meeting where I was invited, some foreigners asked me after watching & reading Sialkot’s story ” why Pakistanis are so brutal & act like a barbarians ” ? I just kept quiet because I don’t find any answer of this question. They have also asked some more questions about our president, which I also couldn’t reply, just felt very much shame.

    • Capt.Durrani says:

Horrified at what happened at Sialkot, the city of Allama Iqbal. Fourteen centuries have passed after the advent of the Greatest and the BEst Religion of the world. We all proclaim to profess Islam and yet the identity of ” Brute and Barbarian” is devastatingly depressing. It is really greatest humiliation and a source of depression.

Shall we just keep quet? Shall we just keep burning in vengiance, as we are helpless? Is it the first time people have taken justice in their own hands and crossed all limits of brutality ? Have Examplary punishments , if there are any, brought about the change ?
Can our enthropologist and socialogist bring forward a comprehensive and macro level remedial plan of action.
Hoping some ray of hope would would enlighten the darkness around

    • Rashid Khan says:

Many of us couldn’t sleep years ago, when zealots were expressing their religous anger and killing and burning members of other communities. Had they been taken to task then society would have reined in this tendency and we would not be witnessing a tragedy in Sialkot.

We need to understand all humans are equal regardless colour, cast and creed.

As a nation we all share a common guilt.

  25. Ahmed Ali says:

“Like every Pakistani with a heart and mind, I too wish and pray that the culprits responsible for the deaths of the young boys are caught and punished with no political or social power intervening in their case.” In a country like Pakistan where anyone and everyone who has a direct or indirect connection with politicians or any other source of power cannot be brought to justice.

  26. Shagufta Sharif says:

I am extremely saddened by the events that took place in Sialkot. There is no seperation of powers in Pakistan and therefore justice can never be expected to be achieved. This case was highlighted due to the modern media in which everyone is out there to get a “scoop”! Pakistan was created because of Islam and it will fall because of it too…Pakistan has lost the values on which it was built. We in the UK, are appalled by what we have seen. At the present time, in the UK a woman is being interviewed by the Police for putting a cat in the trash can. The cat was not killed but was left in there for 15 hours. There is a public outcry. Compare that with what has happened in our beloved Pakistan.

  27. Ammar Qadri says:

this is realy not a good inncident n i dnt have wrds how i express my self……..!!!i want justice from govt n supreme court of pakistan…………n i would like to appreciate CJP iftikhar mohammad ch who took somoto action…….what ever murderer made with innocent boys i m sure that they are not human n they dnt have humanity same we also dnt have humanity for them who made this mistake……..we want justice if govt will not give us justice we will bring a big revolution n its request frm govt dnt try to put this case in grave cz now public involve in it………..

  28. Dear All brother and sisters,

I am from Afghanistan I live in Pakistan for more then 18 years. I remember that one day when the cost of car rent 1% got high. and the government faced with alots of PARADE and after three days it came down.

Now, I am seeing that my Pakistani brother and sister fall in sleep and I feel that when the Mosq is Shahid and now I am totaly confused when I see these videos of two brother.

I don’t want to say anything except of praying to these two brothers and want a PATIENCE FROM MY ALLAH. AS THIS IS DIFFICULT TO US TO SEE WATCH AS THEY ARE NOT RELATIVE OF US AND WHAT WILL THERE FAMILY FELL BY WATCHING THESE VIDEO.

  29. sanjithmenon says:

When a culture of hopelessness sets in all these things happen.

  30. Kabeer says:

Sialkot savagery is another example that how cruel we are as a nation. We Pakistani always make hue and cry and curse the west for painting us as a savage / barbarian nation now how come we can give explanation of such a brutality which happened in broad day light and in front of so many dump spectators and law enforcing agencies as if they were watching a roosters fight. All these events are calling for wrath of God the whole country in general and the citizens of Sialkot should ask for forgiveness from almighty God and must do something for bereaved family to alleviate their irreparable loss otherwise be prepare for another calamity.

    • Sonia Khan says:

well said. All Pakistanis do are whine about how hard their lives are without the will to do anything about it. The country is suffering from the sins of a few.
