Reclaiming our pride

Published August 13, 2010

With tragedies enveloping Pakistan since the past few weeks, this Independence Day the mood is somber. With millions affected by the flood and rendered homeless, scores killed in the recent violence in Karachi, the Airblue crash in Islamabad, civilian casualties along with sacrifices of the armed forces in the war against terror, August 14 is the day when we need to pause and reflect.

It is a day to be thankful for – at the very least – having a country we call home. The image of our homeland has been tarnished – but this is not about why and how. This is about reclaiming the essence of pride and patriotism. This Independence Day, chat with the Dawn.com team between 12 pm and 2 pm as we debate and discuss how we can improve this image and most importantly, how do we lift our spirits and be optimistic about the future of Pakistan and all those who call it home.
